Hello there, welcome back to “Your’s Why Series.
Today we are talking to another accomplished woman, who has followed her dreams and become a successful entrepreneur.
Let’s welcome Jessica Suggs- CEO Of Jessica Suggs Marketing.
Now, without any further ado, let’s get to know her and her journey towards following her dreams.
Tell Us Who You Are:
I am Jessica - Writer, Editor, Collaborative Marketing Strategist
How did you decide to become a Small Business Owner? What is the story behind this decision?
After 14 years in the non-profit media industry, I was ready for a break from the corporate environment. I set out to start my own marketing firm and self-publishing house where I had full control over my schedule, the projects I took on, and the impact I was designed to create. I wanted to make a difference in the lives of women, helping them find their unique voice in a world that tends to dim their spark.
Let’s talk about your business:
Nothing lights me up more than collaborating with others. I'm a connector and thrive on helping entrepreneurs and authors build connections through Authorship, Copywriting and Messaging, and Content Marketing. This is accomplished through exceptional author support, crafting copy in your unique brand voice, and creating and implementing content marketing strategies that build lasting engagement with your clientele. Whether you're in need of brand copy for your business, or you're an author exploring DIY self-publishing options, my services are designed to bring out the very best in your unique voice and mission.
Tell us about your achievements, things that make you feel proud of yourself:
My two children are my greatest contribution to this world. They are my world and my reason for pursuing my dreams with courage and passion. In the corporate world, my greatest achievement was building a division of my organization from scratch. As Director of Media Services, I was blessed with an incredible team and had the privilege of serving men and women in the radio and television industry with excellence. Outside of being a wife and mom, I'm incredibly proud of believing in myself enough to step out in faith and build a business on my own terms.
What challenges have you faced while achieving your dream to be a small business owner?
Being an entrepreneur is no easy task. It's a constant learning experience. My greatest challenge has been continuing to believe in myself and what I have to offer when the road gets hard. When the list of "to-dos" gets long, when the exhaustion of being a wife, mom, the business owner takes its toll, when relationship challenges occur, it's easy to feel like giving up. Staying the course, holding my head high, and persevering is the greatest challenge of all.
What is the one thing you have learned on the road to being a small business owner?
For me, that "one thing" is grounded in my faith. I trust that God will not give me more than I can handle. When my workload is overwhelming, I return to His promises. All the opportunities that come my way are a result of His blessing. When I trust Him to give me strength and do my part to provide the best services I can give, incredible things happen. My encouragement to you is this - DON'T GIVE UP! Keep following that dream in your heart. It matters. YOU matter. The world needs what you have to offer.
What have you learned about yourself on this journey?
That I am a resilient, capable, creative leader. I'm in the company of many bad a$$ women who are changing the world. I don't need to have a seat at your table, I'm making my own.
What advice would you give to someone who wants to be a small business owner or follow their passion?
Just get started. The first thing I did when I decided to start my own business was taking online business courses and learn how to build my website. Is your website the first thing you "should" do for your business? Many will say NO. But for me, it was DOING SOMETHING. It was a tangible step in the direction I wanted to go. Whatever that step is for you, do it!
